exploring, etc is run by me, Pete Hubbard. I have many years experience walking, climbing and mountaineering in the UK, Europe and South America.
My aim is to offer outdoor adventures to help people learn the skills to explore! My particular focus is mountain skills such as navigating with a map and compass and wild camping for expeditions.
My love for the mountains started a long time ago on a school trip to Pen Y Fan when I was 10 years old. Since then I have been on many climbing and walking trips around the UK. I lived in Edinburgh for many years and fell in love with Scottish winters, and Munro bagging.
In 2009/10, I cycled the length of the Andes in South America. Along the way I climbed several high altitude mountains and trekked in some incredibly beautiful national parks.
After returning from my bike trip, I retrained as a teacher, completing the rather excellent PGCE in Outdoor Activities and Maths. I am now based in Newcastle Upon Tyne where I teach both maths and outdoor education and work as a freelance outdoors instructor and private mountain leader.
